Loved my years at Mabelvale and had great friends there. My family moved to Batesville when I was a Junior so I graduated from Batesville High. Hope to attend a reunion one of the days with my brother, Travis, who graduated from Mabelvale.

Your webpage INCORRECTLY shows me as deceased. I am still very much alive and healthy. I still live in Louisville, Kentucky. I still have all the same contact information I had in 1989,when I attended a 1959 class reunion. Please correct the erroneous entries on this site. Larry M. White

Hey there! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this
website? I'm getting tired of Wordpress because I've had issues
with hackers and I'm looking at alternatives for another platform.

I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

I have a lot of memorabilia from the Class of 1935-36. My grandmother graduated that year. In going through her things, I found their 20x22 class photo with all their senior pictures. Clyde Freeman, Ethel Squires, Trula Grogan(my grandmother), Argol Flanagan, Eugene Henderson, Inez Axley, Bertie Kumpe, J.R. Stiles, Marie Kilmer, Katie Bell Vaught, Geraldine Cole, Zella Mae Watson, Carthal Sparrow, Maude Lewallen, Frances Schiermeyer, Sadie Cantrell, George Preist, Valedictorian, Charlene King and Salutatorian, Helene Avery. It also includes Principal, W.H. Halbert. Their class motto is on the fragile cardboard and reads "Pick out your peak and climb." I also have my grandmothers diploma, graduation invitation, and several pictures from when they were all in school and of the school and some pictures of their 50th year class reunion. Is there a place for this kind of stuff?

My Mother was Barbara Bunch. She died when I was 3 years old. All i have to remember her by is her yearbook. My Dad also passed away. I would love to find someone who knew her to tell me a little about her. Or pictures. I have lived my whole life not knowing anything about her and would love to know who she was. Thank you for anyone who takes the time to respond to me::) Tamatha

Except for visits when my folks were still alive (r.i.p. 1993 & 1998), I left LR in 1969. Got this website from an ex-, forwarded to her from an old friend with whom I started school at Oakhurst in 1951 and graduated from Central in 1963. Loved the trip down memory lane and I thank you for taking the time to create and maintain the website.

Great site! Brings back memories of visiting my grandparents in Little Rock, both downtown and when they moved out to the burbs off of Baseline Road in the 60s and 70s. Bet my Dad went to most of these places.

Ray... One more thing... GREAT reprise of the Royal American Shows in LR. As a Hall High trumpet player, I too recall we were always behind the Sheriff's Mounted Hoss Patrol. HAD to watch one's step! I fear our music suffered. As I recall, Hall of Industry was preceded by a big top called The Merchant's Tent where MFA Ins. was a leading sponsor. Passed out shield-shaped fans for those first hot days. A feature was an early punchcard computer that, for a $$$, would analyze your handwriting, tell your future, etc. Tent had MANY booths where one could pick up free stuff. Register for prizes. More fun was to register OTHERS for the fat programs, etc. Outside the tent were many mobie hones one could tour, see how folks lived in those. Fascinating! And the Ark. Poultry Fed'n always had a fried chicken booth nearby, too. Those folks knew their way around fried ckn! Keep up the great work!

You keep adding wonderful items to your page. Thanks so MUCH for all your hard work! Noticed the photo of my lovely Hall High classmate, Kathy Thomas, with the Dumas Milner Pontiac warrior donated as school mascot. Kathy and her twin, Susan, were Hall Class of '63, so that nails it! Dunno why I remember but the chieftain was named "Wak-n-dah." Others may know the significance. Was always threatened with kidnapping by folks at Central, NLRHS, etc.

Thank you for your wonderful website! I stumbled upon this site several years ago, and find myself browsing through it at least once a week. I am a Little Rock native, was raised in a neighbor hood not too far off of Fair Park Blvd. This site really has brought back a lot of memories for me, and happiness. I was born in 1963 and lived in Little Rock up until 1974;then my family moved to Jacksonville, AR. The one place that is mentioned on this site is the "water melon place on Fair Park Blvd. I have many memories of that place. Anyway, I enjoy your website, and hope that it continues to be active for a long time. Thanks again!

I worked at the Minute Man #5 on the New(!) Benton Highway during my senior year in high school in 1966-67. We had never seen a microwave before and delighted in putting eggs, marshmalows, etc., in the "Radarange". Years later, people couldn't believe that I had used a microwave that far back. A couple of additions, especially for those of us who lived a little farther north in town: the biggest ( and maybe the best) hamburgers in town were at the Hi-Boy (on 12th St?), but they were expensive, maybe 45 cents. Also Sandy's Drive-In on Markham had the best milk shakes.

Hello there. I am looking for information about my Grandmother, Jenette Phillips (Mitchell). I am fairly sure that she would have graduated in the class of 1961, but did not finish her senior year. She had two brothers, Tommy and Bill. Her father's name was James I. Phillips and her mother's name was Ida Mae. Any information is better than no information, and what I've told you is pretty much the extent of what I've gathered thus far. Thank you, I certainly do appreciate any help given.

More memories...

Probably the last lunch counter in LR was in the Town and County Shopping Center at Asher and University in the drug store. It was run by Gill, the brother of the Drug store's owner. I think it has only been closed about 10 or 12 years. The Super Burger was outstanding, as was the Hot Roast Beef Sandwich (smothered in gravy, with fries and a small salad.) During the 60's we ate there once a week.

After Herb's BarBQ moved to the Fair Park Blvd location we got take out there once a week, too. I don't recall the sauce having mustard in it, though. I hate mustard and wouldn't have eaten it!

Before that we ate at Sam's diner across the street from Herb's. That building later housed the first location of Beans & Grains & Things, then The Press Box. Is it still there now?

Great memories...

(I graduated from Central in 1970)

I love your website!

The 3 Lido's were owned by G.O. Harper. After he sold the Lido Minute Man to Wes Hall, he opened Black
Angus across from War Memorial Stadium where Subway is now. He later opened another Black Angus location on Cantrell near Mississippi. I believe it stayed open quite a while after the Markham Street location closed.

Several years after that location closed, the wife of one of his relatives (maybe a nephew? I don't think it was his son, Neil, but it could have been) opened a Black Angus (almost the exact same menu--different prices) on University Avenue where Pizza Hut used to be near 19th Street/Boyle Park Road. She later opened another BA on Rodney Parham. It was there several years after the University Avenue location closed, But I think it, too, is closed now.

I need help! We are trying to bring about chgneas to our current Before/After care program, particularly in the evening. We have K-5 from 3:30-6pm and parents picking up any time. Our current teacher is convinced that curriculum is impossible. The children get outside play and homework time, but after that it is all free play with no learning going on. I don't have experience with this type of program in particular, but I believe we could be doing so much more. Can you help me with types of schedules we might do or a sample lesson plan?We are looking for a new teacher who will be open to change.Thank you!

You continue to do SUCh a fine #@*%! with this ite! A few adds under bizzes? You mention a drugstore at Kavanaugh/Beech. There were 2: Gannaway's on SW corner; Churchman's on SW corner. Latter became Churchman-Rhea, then just (Roy) Rhea Drugs. Popular millinery downtown w/many radio ads was Ila Lowe. Seems like Joe's Hobby Shop began at Hillcrest, later was at Park Plaza. On trading stamps? Sadeway have out Gold Bond for Sandy-Saver Redeemed on Main. LR's first enclosed shopping center was the Arcade Bldg. downtown opposite the Carnegie Library, between 6th & 7th on Louisiana and Center. Later, the block became the Downtowner Motor Inn. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for doing this website. I lived in N. Little Rock when I was a kid (until I was 9). My parents operated a "cafe" called the "2-Way Cafe) on the East side of Main Street at the foot of the Main Street bridge in Little Rock. In 1948, my daddy who had dreams of having a "white tablecloth" restaurant opened a restaurant at 810 Main called "Hollie's". He was bankfupt within a year. My mother went to work for Snodgrass and Bracy Drug Store at 110 Main St. as the fountain manager. My daddy worked for the Sterling Department Store but died in 1950. My mother and I then moved to Oklahoma City in 1952. I really had a great time basically running down Main Street, going to movies at the Main, New, Roxy, Capitol and Center. Went to see Gene Autry and Smiley Burnett at the Robinson Auditorium and another boy and I followed them to their hotel (Grady Manning) and went up to their room and met them. We were wearing our Cub Scout uniforms so they invited is in. In the summer time, we played a lot down by the river. Shudder to think of it now. Really enjoy your website as it brings back such good memories.

I came across an old family album at an Estate Sale a few years back. It has many pictures of Mabelvale High School students from the Class of '47-'48. Pictures with names like Robert "Sparky" Sparks, June James,Hugh Smith,Clifford Autry, the ASTC Trio. Just wondering if anyone out there knew about these people, and if they are still around. It seems some guy named Harry took a lot of pictures
